To have a better idea in mind, the signal (Image or Video Data) comes out of the laptop and enters the adaptor, where the signal gets converted to VGA compatible form.
Now connect the HDMI out cable to the HDMI input port of the adaptor from the laptop, and then the VGA output connected to the VGA input in the projector. Laptops nowadays usually come with an HDMI port, so all you need is an HDMI to VGA adapter. Now, in this case, I’m assuming your Laptop has an HDMI, but your projector has a VGA port, and you are facing a technical problem with how to connect successfully with each other.
